Is it just me or is lace everywhere this summer? I am totally down with the girly stuff, but favor it paired with edgier pieces. Over the past year, as this trend has developed, I picked up a few lace-embellished items, like this ModCloth top here, and my trusty lace tee seen here and here. I like today’s top because it’s girly in a sort of twisted victorian way, but since it’s black can be made to look kind of 70’s for some reason, or just cute here for a summery day of work or…if you feel like it, a date!
For tops with this much ladylike embellishment, it’s best to pair with something simple and streamlined on the bottom. I chose a modern printed skirt to balance out the vintage feel of the top. The lace fringe is a great way to bring your date’s eyes up to your face (and let’s face it, decollage). But broad shouldered broads like me have to beware because this kind of top can make you feel kinda football player-y. I think this is as voluminous as I can get on top without feeling super self-conscious about my wide shoulders.

Cute top! I always have a hard time pairing lace with things. Although, you hit the nail on the head. Another blogger that I follow also stated to pair lace with something more edgier. I think I will try that next time.
