When it gets chilly here I get so overwhelmed with all of the sweaters that I want to wear, I can’t even decide sometimes (poor me, right)? I have really been feeling the preppy sweater-over-collared-shirt look lately, and it feels perfect for days when I’m overwhelmed. I can pretty much put any sweater in the world over a collared shirt and feel good!
Try these three easy sweater layering tactics to get a little preppy-boyish vibe going on before it’s 80 degrees again (like it was yesterday)…
- Wear two dramatically different colors at once! If you have a bright collared shirt, throw a bright sweater over it. This is a more subtle way to wear the bright color-blocking trend, and it might just keep you warm, too. Keep it simple on the bottom, and you’ve got yourself a new outfit!
- Mix prints! Another less-dramatic way to pull in a little trendiness is to wear your two prints this way. Think striped sweater with polka-dot or floral blouse, argyle (does anyone wear this anymore?) with checkers, or larger graphic prints with teeny tiny prints underneath. Just a little pop of collar, cuff, or tail will go a long way!
- Button up your cardigan. I actually never think to really do this, but it might give you more options. I like the idea of a chunky v-neck cardigan over a buttoned-all-the-way-up blouse. Very boyish and cute!

Love the preppy vibe you have going on here!! Button ups under sweaters always remind me of being a little kids, and I love that!! Great stripes!
Cuteness. Love the look. I like looking boyish.
I looooove this outfit, and your boots absolutely kill me. Gimme!!
Darn you! You are always so stinkin’ cute.
I’ve been really into button downs, and layering them under a sweater is so preppy and cute – especially a striped sweater!

Wow yes, I always love seeing people wearing their cardigans all buttoned up over a button up blouse. Thanks for reminding me of that! I’ll have to try it soon.
