I love when my clients have a tinge of an idea of a style they want to rock. When I get an email with an image and the text “I want to dress like her!” my heart pitter-pats with excitement. I love a good jumping-off point, who doesn’t? It’s fun to take inspiration from a specific style and translate it to meld into your own. One client with a closetful of floral prints and skirts recently suggested she’d like to incorporate more menswear into her look, and I giggled with joy on the inside (I may have actually said “yay!” too). Because what’s more modern and fun than adding a few key structured elements to a wardrobe filled with girly flair?
An easy way to update your wardrobe without totally changing your style and emptying your bank account is to think about the trends and styles you gravitate towards. If you’re into trying preppy menswear-inspired looks, you don’t have to go all out like I have here (pixie cut and all), but just get yourself a boyish blazer or a crisp button-down and pair it with your other items. The unexpectedness is what makes it fresh and different, and can make you feel like you’ve elevated your style without hardly even doing a thing!

The red pants and blazer with those brown brogues is an excellent way to try out a menswear like look but still looking girly with the pop of red! You’re so chic:)
I love me a good chambray shirt! I have two that go with just about everything I own, and considering how warm it’s been I’ve been wearing them all winter long.
Dang. I KNEW I should’ve bought those red skinny jeans from UO. After seeing this, I need them.
Don’t worry! They are everywhere right now—Old Navy, Target, you can’t escape red jeans, nor should you!
Hi Laurel! I have a blogger award for you on my blog. I hope you will accept it.
That video you once made about how to wear red jeans is what made me decide to buy one and I still don’t regret it! I love how you styled it here again, so pretty! Thanks for all the inspiration Laurel. You tha best! x
This outfit looks awesome on you. I love the blazer paired with your bright red tights. Those glasses are very cute too!
