This weekend I attended a wedding. The ceremony was an outdoor affair, which is a lovely idea, however this weekend it was 105 degrees outside, so I knew my outfit had to be comfortable and practically sweatproof. To add to the wardrobe challenge, the wedding guests were asked to wear 1920’s themed outfits. Luckily I found two lightweight pleated, waist-less items for next to no money, but had to break my No Forever 21 rule to do so…Having felt so proud for 8 months of not shopping at the place, I didn’t feel too terrible making an exception for a special occasion.
When looking for a great summer wedding outfit, make sure of the following:
- The outfit must allow for some movement. What do you do at a wedding? Eat and dance. There’s nothing more embarrassing than seeing professional photos of yourself tugging up your top on the dance floor all night. It might pass as a hilarious dance move at the time, but gorgeous memories it will not make.
- If you’re going to be outside, make sure the fabric is light and not too clingy. This gets tricky when you have to have straps, but think ruching, pleats, or draping.
- Wear undergarments that make you feel confident. You might be mingling with potential suitors, or at least meeting a slew of strangers, so this is the time to wear something that makes you feel sleek. High-waisted spanks smooth out any tummy issues, and wont give you too much extra heat-inducing coverage. I wore my new adhesive bra that I found at Target, and even though I was sweaty, it stayed put all night, even through the dancing portion. I had no straps to worry about, plus I could breathe!

An outdoor wedding in Texas right now sounds awful! But at least you looked very cute!!
That is fabulous! LOVE vintage themed anything, but a wedding? I am still mad I never thought of it back when I wed. Of course, the hubs might not have agreed anyway. You look smashing!

I attended a wedding in June as a bridesmaid; my dress was actually pretty nice, maybe I’ll post about it now.
Also, puh-leeze tell me you danced the lindy hop all night. Or at least the Charleston.
Lastly…have you been following the buzz on Baz Luhrmann’s film adaption of The Great Gatsby? It’s on his website; I’ve been following it all year…I cannot wait for all the 1920s trends that will come up because of the film!
A summer wedding outdoors?!?! Bless you. But I love the 1920s theme! And you looked awesome.
Love this flapper style dress! Actually wearing one today that’s similar! Great look on you and great blog btw! Would you like to follow each other?

Adorable wedding outfit. I love the headband.
these pieces are pretty cute and i cant wait to see how you remix them outside of costume form.
sorry you had to break your no f21 ban. i completely understand not wanting to shop there!
I will make an exception if i happen to find something that was made in the USA. they are in there, hidden and in that case, I’ll be happy to shop F21.
Lovely look
Period perfect and I can imagine you must have been glad of the flowy sillhouette in the heat 😀
What a fun little 20’s inspired outfit! I’m loving your poses for this post! The color of your top is so pretty on you
