I’ve worn this dress a zillion times, at least. I love the cheerful print in the subtle colors, the fitted waist, and the full skirt. It’s a wildly versatile dress, and looks great belted, with a cardigan, with boots, and with tights. That’s why when I was browsing some street style photos of Florence, I thought, “this dress needs to go on vacation…in Florence!” So, here I begin a little series on what to pack for your various summer trips. I will share some key pieces that will fit into your suitcase and can be worn multiple ways and make you feel like a native wherever your travels take you.
A Full Skirt: Florence is an artsy city where the men wear snappy suits and the women wear full, colorful, vintage-looking skirts. Florentine women wear outfits that are simple and mostly unadorned, but punctuated by interesting prints and colors. Many of the fashion-forward ladies are wearing skirts slightly longer, to the mid-calf, as well. It’s easy to throw a dress like this on during your trip and just as easy to top it off with a little blazer or cardigan, simple stud earrings, and red lipstick. None of those items will take up much space in your suitcase, either! You’ll be doing a lot of walking, so this kind of skirt will keep you cool, comfortable, AND will prevent you from feeling out of place among the locals.
