Two Ways to Wear Your Blazer Casually

I recently had a client who thought it was totally crazy and insane to mix her work clothing with her casual wear. She is one of those people who dresses up for work and goes suuuuper casual on the weekends. She contacted me to update her wardrobe and help her feel more “herself” in all areas of her busy life. Over the course of our time together she admitted that she spent years neglecting her non-work wardrobe, deeming it unimportant. She hadn’t spent money on clothing to help her feel cute when she wasn’t working, and the imbalance was getting to her.

One of the quickest and least expensive ways to perk up your casual wardrobe is to mix your nicer, more tailored pieces in with your less dressy items. The juxtaposition is very fresh and modern and will extend your wardrobe and pocketbook further. The easiest piece to wear casually, I believe, is the blazer. Try throwing it on over what you’re already wearing on the weekend–in my case–a striped tee and cutoffs. Suddenly I’m more nautical, pulled together, and slightly French! Same with my drapey tank and cuffed jeans combo. The blazer gives the boho outfit a touch of preppy and feels way more presentable.

If you’re not sure where to begin, and don’t know which casual outfit will work with your blazer, try the opposite approach: Next time you’re wearing a suit for work, bring a pair of jeans with you. Switch out the skirt or pants you’re wearing with the jeans. Bam. You just made yourself an outfit.

I love all the ways you styled this blazer. I love to throw blazers over pretty much anything!

I like the longer layer of your top with your blazer. The last photo with your blazer buttoned gives the effect of cool shapes! I still have to check out Madewell. I won’t be wearing blazers yet in our sweltering 80-degree weather. We Seattleites are not used to it!

Cute ideas! Blazers are so versatile and tend to look great with almost any outfit. Although people ask me why I’m so dressed up any time I wear a blazer. Even with jeans. Guess it’s due to every other college student here being a lazy dresser.

You also have a client who collects ivory/tan blazers and then can’t figure out how to wear them outside of work :-) perfect timing on the linen blazer post!
