This year has really been a practice in impulse control around Trophy Boutique headquarters. In January I began my ill-fated resolution to not buy anything new save for accessories, stopped shopping at Forever 21, and spent a lot of time exploring Austin’s thrift and vintage stores. I fell off the wagon sometime around April, when I caved in and got some skinny cargo pants at Target. But I still refused to enter Forever 21, and have only done so when it’s a last resort. This blazer was a last resort, for instance having scoured the racks of every shop in town before deciding a $20 blazer was the best I was gonna do…
The main thing I have discovered is that the little details of outfits are sometimes more important (and often less expensive) than the individual pieces. A necklace can change a whole look, the kind of glasses you wear can say something about your personality, and a pair leopard print socks can take you from a day at work to a Friday night out without much effort. So for the second half of my impulse-controlled year, I’m choosing to focus on little details. So far, this has already been helping me see more possibilities in my clients‘ wardrobes, and saves them some money too (socks are way cheaper than entire outfits)!
What’s your favorite outfit-changing accessory?
