This is an Outfit

That I wore yesterday. It seems to be quite popular over at Chictopia….I can’t figure that site out at all. Some days I will post what I think is an awesome outfit and no one will vote for it. Other days I wear what I think is a totally basic getup such as this, and it garners lots of attention. Ah, the fickle public…And can someone please explain how a photo gets to the “style gallery”? I am totally confused by that. It seems like it’s always the same bloggers featured there as well as on Weardrobe. Sometimes I will get discouraged by the incomprehensibility of it all, and grossed out by the fact that I am publishing something for people to vote on (ew!) and think I will throw the towel in on those sites, but then someone will leave a sweet comment or come over to my blog from there, and I guess that’s why I keep doing it. Plus I like a site where I can see a bunch of different streetstyle outfits all on the same page!

Okay, gotta go obsess over something else now….bye!

I feel the same way about Chictopia! I just can't crack it. They just changed the Style Gallery regulations, I think they're in the FAQ. But I do find some cool peeps there, that's where I came across your blog. So, keep it up, I guess. At least they don't have pervy guys that add all your tights and socks pictures like on flickr.

The style gallery publishes the top 5% of all submissions. So if you post something that gets 352353 comments, but someone else posts something around the same time that gets a few more comments, their post is going to make it into the style gallery over yours even though at a different time someone else with way fewer comments and votes might make it in. It's a weird system, but I'm not sure what the right way to do it is, either. Chictopia perplexes me, but I still come by it sometimes because I'll often discover blogs that way. But I do dislike the whole popularity contest element of things.

Anyway, I think the reason your outfit got so much attention is that it's totally awesome! You really nailed cool and casual. It looks great :)

    I love this!
Lately with this rain in Ca, I feel like jeans are my best friends hahah. I like your boots =)

sophi isn't entirely right, the 5% is an estimate, not a limitation. It's about pageviews, mostly, so if you want to get a look in the style gallery promote it on facebook and twitter and your blog (along with a link to the chictopia look) to get max pageviews. Comments and chicvotes don't count as much. It sort of sucks, since chictopia promotes certain looks on their very popular twitter, so that isn't really playing fair.

Also: whether a look gets a lot of attention or not from other chictopians mostly depends on WHEN you post (calm moment or busy moment) and whether you have been commenting on other people's blogs a lot. being very social on chictopia totally helps your own blog.

Oh well. I stay there because I like the backtrack I've created and because it helps me meet new people with cool blogs, and they do have some awesome opportunities like contests etc. And the social aspect is easier to see through than that on lookbook or weardrobe. I don't use those.

your outfit is very cute btw! 😀 casual chic!

Yea I get totally confused by Chictopia too, glad I'm not the only one. And I am always surprised when certain outfits of mine get votes/comments and then others that I think are way better don't. But I really like getting inspiration and finding new blogs from it, but I go through phases where I don't go on it for weeks.

I definitely love this outfit though, so I understand why everyone on chictopia likes it! :)

Need those boots. Great, wayfaring kind of look.

The food versions of chictopia, etc. are equally baffling. Enough that I don't really enjoy submitting to them at all. But, I do like those boots! Maybe those are your secret chictopia weapons.

If I could figure out the secret science to winning over the fickle public, I would share it with you. As it stands, I'm equally as baffled as you :)

I feel like back in the day when I was really into Chictopia, you just needed a certain number of votes to get into the style gallery, but I'm not sure how it works anymore! It's great for inspiration, but yeah – sometimes the votes can be a bummer, especially when you're like… this outfit rules… and it bombs on one of those sites – haha!! ;]

I actually have left chictopia recently – it was fun at first, and I got to 'meet' a lot of wonderful & stylish people through it, but it lost all of it's fun. It felt like a high school popularity contest, and I didn't like the fact that even if people voted you in to the style gallery, the editors could remove you for no apparent reason. I spoke up about it and had multiple photos removed from the gallery – was I blacklisted? I dunno, but when I realized it wasn't fun anymore, I decided to bail, and I definitely don't regret my decision! I still go there to look at photos, but don't comment and don't post my own photos… if I see a photo I like I try to go to their blog to comment there instead!

I gave up on Chictopia soon after joining.
    Didn't get it AT ALL.
    Couldn't even navigate the site.
But every time someone writes about it – I think – oh yeah! I DID find 2 blogs there that I love.
So, I shall dip in some time today and see if I can make another discovery.
    thanks for bringing it up!
