STYLED: Behind the Scenes at the Hot Nights Event

hot nights event

I pick and choose my editorial/event styling gigs pretty carefully (as in, I usually do 2 a year at most). But when my friend (and Trophy Boutique client) Bridget asked me to help with the costumes for her recurring Hot Nights event that she produces with The Exchange Artists I couldn’t refuse. The concept is so fun: pair a 20 minute play with a live band and a cocktail hour manned by models styled to match the theme of the event. And the best part: the theme was early 1900’s mixed with punk. How could any stylist say no to this???

I quickly compiled an inspiration board, and with the help of Velvet Dust Magazine (also on hand to “dust guests” with hair powder and feathers) I gathered a fun wardrobe of Betsey Johnson dresses, full skirts, lace tights, and punk jewelry. The models and actresses came to our fitting with pieces from their own closet, and we came up with a frilly, shiny, badass mix. Amazing hair and makeup was done by Avery Allen, Lorian Does Hair, and Andrea Juarez. Big thanks to Michelle Pimm for all her styling help, too….I had so much fun working with this crew, and I even figured out how to make bustles for one model and one punk rocker!

My favorite skilled photographer The Netted Pigeon came along for the fun and I thought I’d share some highlights. For the full photo set, visit him here.
