Some dresses are a little tricky to wear. I see those tricky pieces every time I visit a clients closet, and I have a bunch of them in my own collection. However, I refuse to give up on those well-loved pieces that might not totally work all on their own. I think of them as little challenges to overcome!
Take this white ruffled dress. I am not a super ruffle-dress type of gal, but this one here is flirty and cute, if kind of waist-hiding. I’ve tried belting it, but the ruffles fall in the exact wrong place for a belt. Enter: trusty hot pink cardigan! I tempered the boxy girly shape with a fitted cardigan in a super bright color, which creates a line down the front and gives the dress more structure. Add a long necklace and you’ve got even more shape and distraction. Plus, adding a few badass accessories gives it less of an innocent ruffle vibe overall. Bingo!
