Jewelry Organization (before, during, and after)…

jewelry organization

This week I was planning to blog about my early finds for fall, but here in Texas they have barely begun to bring out the warmer clothes, and I suppose that makes sense. So, since I was feeling uninspired in the clothing department, I headed over to the Container Store. Those of you who follow me on Facebook or Twitter probably know this already, but of course I ended up with much more than I set out to find…Therefore, welcome to the accessory corner of my little closet. It kind of looks like a drag queen threw up in there, does it not?

The above photo is what it looked like before. I had the Elfa Decor jewelry drawer and shelf system, as you can see, however, at least a half of my jewelry didn’t have a home. I mean, there are bangles everywhere and tangled necklaces galore. I don’t recommend a part-time job in a jewelry store unless you have a proper organization system in your closet!

I needed another jewelry drawer. The kind they sell have dividers in them, so I got one with half small, half large dividers for both earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. I said no to the lid, because mine always gets in the way, and why do you need a lid anyway? Here’s a detail on the drawers:

I had a little trouble with the installation:

But ended up with a much tidier situation. I also found the rotating necklace tree, which works well for my longer, bulkier items that don’t fit in the dividers. Now, if only this stuff dusted itself…

Overall, I think the Elfa components are really easy to install and affordable, however, I don’t like the way the wall brackets look above the shelf. I’m not sure if perhaps I should have been given a shorter length or what, but if you do get one of these systems, I recommend looking into whether the brackets will show. So embarrassing!

It looks great. I wish my jewerly space was organized.

  2. Girl, I need your help. My jewelry is out of control!! It has taken over my dressing table and pretty much any and all available flat surfaces in my room. Do you recommend the necklace holders at The Container store?? After I get those handled, I can figure out what to do with my earrings. I’m pretty sure they multiply when I’m not around……

Geez, wish I had that much space for my jewelery.

I’ve been wanting to make my own jewelry organizer, as I feel the same exact way about wall brackets! Sometimes, they’re a necessary evil.

UGH! You’ve got all your jewelry in place!!! I wish I had something that was as efficient as that!

I once took a hacksaw to the brackets that were too long on a different shelving system to cut them to size. Worked great. You’d have to take them all off and do it again, but we have a hacksaw if you want it! Also, is your lipstick… open?

One of my favorite posts yet! Love the line about a drag queen throwing up. You are funny.

Love this. I aspire to have a more organized closet and jewelry area. Maybe this was the motivation I needed!

My jewelry is always a mess. I have a chest with nine square drawers not condusive to good jewlry organization. Plus, out of sight, out of mind – I only wear what is sitting on top of it.

And statement necklaces have NOWHERE to go!

  10. This is a fabulous solution to lots of jewelry. I use old tea cups for rings, a vintage jewelry case for small trinkets, wall hangings, and then stack bracelets over pretty slender bottle of perfume. It’s pretty ridiculous, but it gives me a chance to see my items. I pretty much stole those ideas from Style Like U though.
