I’ve been feeling like I’ve been in a creativity rut this week, like I’ve run out of outfits you haven’t seen, like I just don’t feel like making a huge effort. It could be because I’m super busy, or it could be because the weather is neither here nor there, but I had to really push for this outfit here, people!
What is it about pairing certain colors together that makes us freaked out? It’s not like someone is going to show up at your house with some handcuffs if you wear black and brown or purple and yellow, or, in my case black and navy and red and green. It’s all about finding a way around the rules! If you have to try something different like I did, try to pair those criminally opposed colors in small doses.
- When wearing navy, it’s totally okay to wear black or grey shoes (or any other “wrong” combo). It’s RARELY noticeable, especially if it’s a skirt or dress and your legs break up the colors.
- Try pairing your “wrong” colors in deeper tones, like if you’re doing red and green, choose a super dark green and a small amount of red. It’s less Christmassy, more sophisticated this way.
- Distract from your mis-matchedness with a super busy item! I’m wearing a skirt with a mish-mosh of colors, so it looks like everything goes!
Try something you normally wouldn’t this year, why dontcha? These ruts might turn out to be moments where you throw stuff together and start seeing everything differently! Of course, if you need a second pair of eyes to help inspire, I am just a phone call or email away!
