Ever since I found this dress over the summer I have been envisioning it with a sweater layered over it. Since my powers of positive visualization are spot-on lately, it makes perfect sense that this outfit materialized. I am on a roll, people!
How can you find the perfect dress/sweater combination, you ask?
- Find a dress with a simple, unfettered top. My dress is very fitted and sleeveless, so there’s no extra bulk in the form of ruffles or pockets up top, which makes it perfect to put a sweater over.
- The necklines of both the dress and sweater should more or less match one another, shape-wise.
- Waist definition. This is key. If your dress is shapeless, your sweater should be more fitted, and vice versa. If neither have shape, try putting a belt over the top layer. Extra layers can sometimes be bulky, and give you a shapeless kind of look. Defining the waist can mitigate this phenomena.
- The colors should sing to each other in harmony, or at least hum the same tune. Try a simple neutral sweater with your printed dress, or try solid on solid if you wanna do that color-blocking thing everyone’s so crazy for.
